Woven fences from vine prunings
Pruning time in the vineyard provides an opportunity for a different kind of harvest. Bendable canes from grapevines can be woven into useful barriers to deter wildlife from eating precious plants. They delineate borders and hold back new soil on our sloping property.
I find that woven grapevine fences last around four years, by which time plants have established and new gardening ideas have emerged. The age gracefully and are easy to remove when they have reached their used by dates. This year I have woven three new fences and, when I have harvested more canes, I will start on a fourth.
